<back | home Introduction by Bob Banner, Publisher The GreenEarth Festival that we cosponsored with GreenEarth Promotions was indeed a success. Lucinda Nichols and I have heard so many wonderful stories and comments from vendors, workshop facilitators and attendees that it certainly is sustaining our inspiration. I want to thank again all the volunteers, musicians, food vendors and facilitators for coming out and making it happen! I'm also so thrilled to have had the opportunity (or excuse) to bring Global Exchange and greenfestivals.com cofounder Kevin Danaher to SLO. Hopefully his dynamic and humorous presentation will help us sustain the flame that he ignites. If you missed his speech, we have a video available. And special thanks to Lucinda Nichols who called months ago and said let’s make a greenfestival happen here in SLO! She was the main force behind it! Irregular contributor Kate Renz writes a howling irreverent piece that could only be originally written for our special issue on Humor. We have numerous humorous essays, jokes, cartoons and ad spoofs to make this issue lighter than our usual menu. These are disturbing and urgent times and sometimes we need a break. As our title states: "Laughing our butts off for change and for a change." But because John Calvert approached us to do an insert about impeaching Bush and company we thought it imperative to get the word out now, rather than wait for the September/October issue. Check out the newly released films that we are offering. The Palm Theatre will be helping HopeDance by having a special benefit premiere showing of The Corporation on the evening of Friday, July 16. Films about Oil Depletion, the Dalai Lama dialoguing with Activists, Hijacking Catastrophe, Reconciliation between Warriors, Mystical States, Israel and the Media can all be found here for Santa Maria, SLO and Isla Vista audiences. Also, if you’ve noticed, this issue is the skimpiest of all. Not only did we shrink it because it’s summer time but because we are hurting financially.
