No Impact Man: The Adventures of a Guilty Liberal Who Attempts to Save the Planet, and the Discoveries He Makes About Himself and Our Way of Life in the Process
He and his family decide to live a no impact life for a year. They live on the 7th floor of an apartment complex in NY city.
I love this book. Its dog-eared all over the map. Hes honest which makes it more readable and totally enjoyable. Its not easy to live a no impact lifestyle. Many pages are devoted to the struggles with his family as well as himself and even environmentalists. He is not a fundamentalist but very concerned about the various converging crises and decided to go cold turkey to do this since he really saw his self righteousness splayed on everyone else. For him to be true to himself he needed to act. And act he does... From using an african jug system as a refrigerator to using a hankerchief rather than tissues to walking 7 flights of stairs rather than the elevator to using a jar for his coffee, to reusing plastic bags, to washing their laundry in the bathtub as they sing and play and stomp on the clothes to get washed. Im not finished with the book yet and will come back here and add more comments. The documentary is out already. See the trailer at this site: http://www.hopedance.org/community-media/videos/45
And theres plans on creating a movie movie of this story. Stay tuned for more......
