Regarded by many as the “Mother of the Heirloom Seed Movement,” Diane Ott Whealy and her husband Kent started a small grassroots seed- saving movement on their farm in 1975 that is now a 13,000 member non-profit organization known internationally as Seed Savers Exchange (SSE), the largest non-governmental seed bank in North America that makes heirloom seeds available to the public and operates an educa- tional farm. An author, lecturer, plant curator, and champion of bio- diversity, Diane is currently Vice President of Seed Savers Exchange.
