Subdivided is about suburbia but it’s a personal story of the filmmaker who decides to buy a house and discovers to his dismay that he has bought a house and not a home living in suburbia rather than a neighborhood. And the isolation is palpable. We hear commentary from the new urbanists, from Robert Putnam who gave us Bowling Alone and James Howard Kunstler, the famed author of the Geography of Nowhere and the Long Emergency. The film is not just about problems but he shows neighborhoods who care and what it takes to keep the energy of community life alive and well.
