Instructions
for Gathering Signatures
As you know, this national
referendum calls for us to show compassion toward
the Afghan people as we pursue the perpetrators
of the attack on the U.S. It was co-authored by
members of the Christian Community in Central and
Southern California, including liberals and a
conservative pentagon military analyst from the
Reagan Administration.
I appreciate your taking the time to send this on
to so many people. This is an update that
includes info from my previous e-mail as well as
an address to send in the petitions. Thank you
again for anything you choose to do. We all have
lives and other commitments.
Instructions for Gathering Signatures:
1) To carry legal force, petitions must include
signature, printed name and address.
2) If the petition is circulated in a foreign
country, please change the first sentence
to read "We the People of the international
community..." and write the country of
origin prominently at the top. In the future we
may set up a separate PO box address for
international petitions, so please check the
Hopedance.org website for updates.
3)For counting purposes, please have all
petitions completely filled before mailing.
4) Mail petitions to:
JUSTICE - NOT WAR
P.O. BOX 399
SANTA MARIA, CA 93456-0399
5) PLEASE CHECK HOPEDANCE.ORG FOR CHANGES OF
ADDRESS, WE ARE STILL TRYING TO LINE UP
VOLUNTEERS TO EMPTY A PO BOX IN WASH. D.C. AND
COUNT PETITIONS. THIS MAY SAVE TIME AND MONEY IF
WE NEED TO SHIP THEM LATER.
6) I have received e-mails of support from people
all over the country
including some from NY- and not one objection to
the referendum. My efforts
to work through the large brokerage firm that had
offices at the Trade
Center have bogged down.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS
REFERENDUM TO ALL OF YOUR CONTACTS IN NY. WE MUST
GET VOLUNTEERS TO CIRCULATE THESE PETITIONS AMONG
THE SURVIVORS, GATHER AND COLLECT THEM IN NY, AND
SEND A DELEGATION TO CONGRESSMAN SCHIFF'S OFFICE
AT THE CAPITOL, THAT HE MAY JOIN THE DELEGATION
FOR DELIVERY TO THE PRESIDENT(A FEW THOUSAND
SIGNATURES IS PROBABLY SUFFICIENT-THE CRITICAL
ISSUE IS TIME) THIS MUST BE ACCOMPLISHED WITHIN
THE NEXT FEW DAYS. A HEADLINE SHOULD BE ADDED TO
THE TOP OF THE PETITION:"SURVIVORS OF THE
TRADE CENTER ATTACK SEND A MESSAGE TO PRESIDENT
BUSH AND THE UN". COPIES SHOULD ALSO BE
PRESENTED IN PERSON TO KOKI ANAN. ALL SIGNATURES
OF THE SURVIVORS IN NY. SHOULD BE GATHERED BY ONE
INDIVIDUAL THEIR AND NOT MAILED TO CALIFORNIA.
PLEASE CONTACT ME AT THE E-MAIL ADDRESS BELOW IF
YOU LIVE IN LOWER MANHATTAN.
7) 4) We need volunteers to send their e-mail and
phone info to Karen:
spiritus@hotmail.com:
She is our recruiter and is compiling a master
list of radio stations
nationwide. She will assign volunteers to:
A) Call music based radio stations and bring
their attention to MP3 files
with the Jazz and rock cuts that will refer
people to Hopedance.org for a
copy of the referendum.
B) Send MP3 files to radio stations across the
country(need volunteers with
high-speed connections)
A Peace Activist's Briefing:
1) Sonya Paz Baron is a Peace activist with a
tremendous e-mail peace
network. She is a rock star from Chile and was
imprisoned by Pinochet for
her activism. She is recovery from surgery but
will be on her feet in a few
days and promises to get Sting and other activist
celebrities to help us
get the petitions to the UN.
2) I have two friends in So. Cal. that are sound
engineers/ producers with
professional studios. They have agreed to take on
the task of writing and
producing an original piece to jazz and possibly
hip-hop or rock that
expresses the moral position of the referendum
and would refer people to
the Hopedance.org website to download the
referendum & website to get
involved.
3) I am in contact with one of Congressman
Schiff's top aids(an old friend).
He has been one of the more outspoken dissenters
in Congress regarding
compromise of our principles in this crisis. I am
asking him directly to
carry signed petitions from survivors that were
in or near the World Trade
Center to President Bush.
4)We need all of our fellow Afgan-American
friends to contact all of their
friends and family in Afghanistan.
Let us get letters from Afghanistan addressed to
both their family members
and to Americans in general posted on several
websites nationwide. If the
American People can have intimate contact with
these people and come to know
them by name; learn of their desires for freedom
and relief; and follow
their plight, we will have nothing but compassion
for these so called
enemies.
The power of the internet can spread this
quickly, and I am excited about
the prospect of a majority of Americans voting to
enact this referendum into
law that will have power over any Act of Congress
or the President- This
freedom is why I love America so deeply, and I am
confident that the Spirit
of compassion embodied in Christ, Gandhi and
Mohamed will unite and prevail.
God
Bless America for upholding our principles of
peace and goodwill to mankind.
Sincerely, Bruce Severance
Please
refer only coordination efforts and letters from
Afghanistan to me at the following e-mail
address. I have been flooded with e-mail and
cannot both read it all and take care of my
family, but thank you for the outpouring. mbseverance@mindspring.com
